Surprisingly bad customer service

I don't usually buy food at M&S but I had the impression of good quality food although a bit pricey. Recently I bought chicken breast fillets. The next day, as I was adding them into the sauce I'd made, I noticed the use by date was the previous day- ie the day I bought them. Because we don't like to eat food past a 'use by' date, I binned the whole dinner and had to start again (it stung a bit because it was my birthday that day). It was my mistake not to check that it needed to be eaten on the day of purchase, but equally, the food was not marked as a short date, or reduced in price - nothing to indicate it was anything other than standard good quality. I called customer services who told me to email them with pictures, which I did, asking for a refund because the food was not clearly marked as use by the date of sale. I'm used to Tesco refunding without question if I query any groceries, so was a bit shocked when M&S (which I thought prided itself on good quality food and customer service) replied that they would not refund or otherwise compensate me for my lost dinner (which was only a few pounds and would have satisfied me). It's within their rights I guess, but in their email they told me they were sorry that the 'cake' was not up to the standards I'd expect. I replied that it wasn't cake, it was chicken, but they replied that they still wouldn't refund anything because it was 'unfair to their other customers'- presumably I should be happy that I'm at least being treated as shoddily as everyone else.

Do NOT order from Marks and Spencer

Over the August Bank holiday weekend I placed an on line order and paid for next day delivery.
When order not received by 2nd September (Friday) I contacted Customer Service, who reshipped the order. Both the reshipped and original order were delivered on 7 September.
I also placed 2 orders for collection from my neared M & S store, by 7 September. When I went to the store they had only received 1 order, both orders were showing on M&S web site as collected. I did not initially realise that second order was missing as first order was delivered in multiple bags. Contacted Customer Service who agreed to reship the missing order
On 9 September I ordered a complete set of replacement underwear, which I needed to facilitate the more comfortable using of medical equipment,
On 16 September I contacted Customer Service to report that the order still had not been received and requested that the order be reshipped to my nearest M & S store and was advised that they could not do this, I reluctantly agreed for the order to be reshipped to my home address and requested that it was not sent by Eviri, who currently do NOT deliver in my local area, and was advised that Customer Service had no control over which carrier is used
Unless M&S take urgent action to resolve this situation I will NEVER shop at M&S again

M&S flower delivery

This is the second and last time I pay for flowers to be delivered by M&S. The first time was for mothers day. The flowers were nice, but both my mother's and my mother in law's cards were for two other strangers. This time was a bunch of roses for my wedding anniversary. I chose next day delivery, which was supposed to be for yesterday, but they didn't arrive.
I've tried tracking them and they haven't even been received from the logistics company. Because today is Sunday and the Queen's funeral tomorrow, she'll receive them three days late. Thanks M&S, never again!

Terrible rude staff member

Terrible staff member, not helpful at all. I went to pay for some flowers I had bought and the lady who was at self checkouts was busy with helping people and it looked like she was overwhelmed. I asked another staff member lady who was folding clothes and I explained that all I needed was a bag for my flowers and that it is too busy for the one staff member to help everyone and she said she couldn’t help me. She was rude and didn’t want to help a customer or her colleague who was overwhelmed with busy checkouts. Appalling. I had to go and look for it myself and spent 10 mins doing this. This was in Brighton store outside Churchill square. 13:20pm

Not worth the hassle

My wife ordered a few pairs of trousers online as the shops are now completely useless and carry very little stock or sizes. The order took 7 days to dispatch, then a text arrives saying the order is ready to collect, but not on a Sunday, one of the only two days that most working people get off, which is really useful. With the Queens funeral, the earliest the order can be collected is Tuesday which means from the time of ordering it took 12 days to receive the items.

She will not be bothering again and like with John Lewis it will only be a matter of time before we see two more great British retailers disappear from out High Street.

Chicken Kyivs ... like tasteless chicken sausages

Chicken Kyivs ... a fancy name for the Chicken Kievs we all know. But the M&S ones are those that few of us surely wish we had never known. Described as a "shaped chicken breast stuffed with garlic and parsley butter coated in a golden crumb", the Kyiv has all the fancy words ... which belie the reality: chicken that has all the texture of compressed sausage meat, with a layer of garlic/parsley butter that is unable, because of the impenetrable solidity of the meat, to add anything at all to the taste experience. A disaster! And as for the golden crumb, after 20 prescribed minutes in the oven at exactly the correct temperature, it had none of the crispy half-crunch that makes a true Chicken Kiev such a ... Treat to Eat.

My advice: forget the fancy spellings, M&S. And the pseudo-cheeky marketing, seeking the sympathy vote linked to Ukraine (was that it?).

And before you have the cheek to put such a dire dish before consumers ... who mostly would love for you to do well ... get a tasting panel of, say, 30 or 40 non-M&S people to tell you the truth. In this case ... Awful!

Great staff

I'm a regular customer at the Bradford store in Broadway. I needed some help with finding suitable meals for vegetarians and the member of staff called Greta was very friendly and helpful by stopping what she was doing and assisting me. Managed to find several options and spent more than anticipated but very happy to try new options and ranges. Top marks.

Coffee where's the coffee

Went for lunch at cafe in m and s at metro. Two lattes in smaller cups than usual. Three quarters froth and next to no coffee. Absolutely rubbish. What coffee was in cup was cold.

Our Best Ever Chicken Tikka Masala

Our Best Ever Chicken Tikka Masala. £6. Awful! Bought this as I usually like M&S ‘Our Best Ever’ products very much. I’ve eaten CT Masala in many restaurants and from food shops over the years, and have never encountered one where ‘smoke’ flavouring was included. It doesn’t enhance the dish whatsoever; conversely, the ‘smoke’ is overpowering, detracts from the dish and any resemblance to CT Masala is lost. Will certainly never buy it again.

Do not order from M&S as it is highly…

Do not order from M&S as it is highly likely you will NOT see your purchase.
Paid £1300 for garden furniture in July, after 2 changed delivery dates I received a message saying furniture was out of stock.( This payment had been held by M & S for 2 months) Unfortunately I had also ordered a bed frame in the sale and with misplaced confidence donated ours to a recycling shop. Last week I received a call from M&S to say the bed wouldn't be coming as it was out of stock.
M&S your ordering system is corrupt.
Trying to contact Customer Service is hardwork and time consuming any responses received miss the point, are dogmatic and smack of a disinterested company, the worst I have had the misfortune of trying to deal with. They proudly told me it is in the contract that it is their right to cancel the order.
So after 50 years as a very loyal customer I vow never to order online or step in one of your stores again.
Sadly with service like this and it echos many other reviews on here I think M&S are doomed.

Q:

Does M&S still have the same reputation they had before?

A:

Top quality food and clothing. Food can be expensive but the clothes are very reasonably priced

by Brittany Chavez - June 14, 2022

A:

No short date life on food products, unfortunately quality has gone along with customer service. Still going on old days reputation which is no longer applies, you would spend money better in your local supermarket xxx

by Oscar - April 28, 2022

A:

Absolutely not, the products are low quality and the customer service is worse. Their review criteria won't let you leave negative feedback
